Fun News to Read

Sorry for having taken so long to get around to this! But with the New Year here and now that I am back to school, its all back on track..... here are some fun stories that I found that are interesting and fun to read...

Indian Power!!! Two exciting reads about India as we begin the new year to see just how far our country has come. We've heard all the stories about India's glorious past and its great history but its there once again for us to see and understand here and now. First in education.... we've all heard about IIT and we see Indians all around us leading the way in so many different fields. But the success of Indian education is now being realized for little kids too! And not in America, but in Japan! For those of you who know about Japan, they have a huge pride thing and never can admit that another Asian country is better than them yet here they are talking about Indian education.... Then in cars... Tata is now making the world's cheapest car ever! There isn't much info out about this top secret project but what an amazing idea! Really good mileage, really affordable, and small for city driving... can't beat that!

This is unrelated to India but on the subject of cars...automatic cars! It's no longer a science fiction story but more like a reality....

Prescribing Placebos??? Apparently a survey showed that many doctors are prescribing placebos...empty pills! And they're working in many cases. But some patients are angry. Should they be? Or can doctors be allowed to do this? The whole psychological aspect of medicine is very interesting....

The Green Electronics Show.... electronics and environment seem to almost be at conflict but the CES (something worth reading about in itself if you're into high tech stuff) has become carbon-neutral this year. I didn't really know what carbon-neutral was until I read this but I thought it was kind of nice. Oprah had a show recently about helping the environment too...maybe its time we all start doing something for our Earth.

I was reading an article that recently came up about the Tata's car that costs $2,500 and it was talking about the economic effects. The car isn't that "green" or safe for the environment and if you think about it a car this cheap, there are many people that will be able to afford it. The general idea is that more cars on the road equals more pollution. But I also believe that Tata will start trying to figure out how to make that car electric or hybrid, because technology is advancing like crazy.
The idea is still incredible. I like the way Tata is thinking, cheap cars. Maybe I can get a Bmw for under 10,000.
