Life is Beautiful

This is a reallly touching story...definitely share it with those you know!

There was a blind girl who hated herself because she was blind. She hated everyone, except her loving boyfriend. He was always therefor her. She told her boyfriend, "If I could only see the world, I will marry you."

One day, someone donated a pair of eyes to her. When the bandages came off, she was able to see everything, including her boyfriend. He asked her, 'Now that you can see the world, will youmarry me?' The girl looked at her boyfriend and saw that he was blind. The sight of his closed eyelids shocked her. She hadn't expected that. The thought of looking at them the rest of her life led her to refuse to marry him.

Her boyfriend left her in tears and days later wrote anote to her saying: 'Take good care of your eyes, my dear, before they were yours, they were mine.'

This is how the human brain often works when our status changes. Only a very few remember what life was like before, and who was always by their side in the most painful situations.

Life Is a Gift
Today before you say an unkind word -Think of someone who can't speak.
Before you complain about the taste of your food - Think of someone who has nothing to eat.
Before you complain about your husband or wife - Think of someone who's crying out to GOD for a companion.
Today before you complain about life -Think of someone who went too early to heaven.
Before you complain about your children -Think of someone who desires children but they'rebarren.
Before you argue about your dirty house someone didn't clean or sweep -Think of the people who are living in the streets.
Before whining about the distance you drive -Think of someone who walks the same distance with their feet.
And when you are tired and complain about your job - Think of the unemployed, the disabled, and those who wish they had your job.
But before you think of pointing the finger or condemning another -Remember that not one of us is without sin and we all answer to one MAKER.
And when depressing thoughts seem to get you down -Put a smile on your face and thank GOD you're alive and still around.

People of the Year

The Person of the Year: Vladimir Putin

In a year when Al Gore (very nice article about another man who really defined this year) won the Nobel Peace Prize and green became the new red, white and blue; when the combat in Iraq showed signs of cooling but Baghdad's politicians showed no signs of statesmanship; when China, the rising superpower, juggled its pride in hosting next summer's Olympic Games with its embarrassment at shipping toxic toys around the world (a great article on Hu Jintao, one of the reformers behind China's great success); and when J.K. Rowling (very interesting insight for Harry Potter fans) set millions of minds and hearts on fire with the final volume of her 17-year saga—one nation that had fallen off our mental map, led by one steely and determined man, emerged as a critical linchpin of the 21st century.

Russia lives in history—and history lives in Russia. Throughout much of the 20th century, the Soviet Union cast an ominous shadow over the world. It was the U.S.'s dark twin. But after the fall of the Berlin Wall, Russia receded from the American consciousness as we became mired in our own polarized politics. And it lost its place in the great game of geopolitics, its significance dwarfed not just by the U.S. but also by the rising giants of China and India. That view was always naive. Russia is central to our world—and the new world that is being born. It is the largest country on earth; it shares a 2,600-mile (4,200 km) border with China; it has a significant and restive Islamic population; it has the world's largest stockpile of weapons of mass destruction and a lethal nuclear arsenal; it is the world's second largest oil producer after Saudi Arabia; and it is an indispensable player in whatever happens in the Middle East. For all these reasons, if Russia fails, all bets are off for the 21st century. And if Russia succeeds as a nation-state in the family of nations, it will owe much of that success to one man, Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin.

No one would label Putin a child of destiny. The only surviving son of a Leningrad factory worker, he was born after what the Russians call the Great Patriotic War, in which they lost more than 26 million people. The only evidence that fate played a part in Putin's story comes from his grandfather's job: he cooked for Joseph Stalin, the dictator who inflicted ungodly terrors on his nation.

When this intense and brooding KGB agent took over as President of Russia in 2000, he found a country on the verge of becoming a failed state. With dauntless persistence, a sharp vision of what Russia should become and a sense that he embodied the spirit of Mother Russia, Putin has put his country back on the map. And he intends to redraw it himself. Though he will step down as Russia's President in March, he will continue to lead his country as its Prime Minister and attempt to transform it into a new kind of nation, beholden to neither East nor West.

TIME's Person of the Year is not and never has been an honor. It is not an endorsement. It is not a popularity contest. At its best, it is a clear-eyed recognition of the world as it is and of the most powerful individuals and forces shaping that world—for better or for worse. It is ultimately about leadership—bold, earth-changing leadership. Putin is not a boy scout. He is not a democrat in any way that the West would define it. He is not a paragon of free speech. He stands, above all, for stability—stability before freedom, stability before choice, stability in a country that has hardly seen it for a hundred years. Whether he becomes more like the man for whom his grandfather prepared blinis—who himself was twice TIME's Person of the Year—or like Peter the Great, the historical figure he most admires; whether he proves to be a reformer or an autocrat who takes Russia back to an era of repression—this we will know only over the next decade. At significant cost to the principles and ideas that free nations prize, he has performed an extraordinary feat of leadership in imposing stability on a nation that has rarely known it and brought Russia back to the table of world power. For that reason, Vladimir Putin is TIME's 2007 Person of the Year.

Joke of the Day

There was this Christian lady that had to do a lot of traveling for her business, so she did a lot of flying. Flying made her nervous, so she always took her Bible along with her to read and it helped relax her. One time, she was sitting next to a man. When he saw her pull out her Bible, he gave a little chuckle and went back to what he was doing. After awhile, he turned to her and asked, "You don't really believe all that stuff in there do you?" The lady replied, "Of course I do. It is the Bible." He said, "Well, what about that guy that was swallowed by that whale?" She replied, "Oh, Jonah. Yes, I believe that, it is in the Bible." He asked, "Well, how do you suppose he survived all that time inside the whale?" The lady said, "Well, I don't really know. I guess when I get to heaven, I will ask him." "What if he isn't in heaven?" the man asked sarcastically. "Then you can ask him." replied the lady.

How Much Gold Do You Want??? The choice is yours...

For those of you who were there Saturday night at the gathering, this story will be a repeat. But for those who weren't, here it is...

There was once a king who ruled over a great kingdom. One day a seer told him, however, that a great tragedy was to befall the kingdom. The king asked if there was any way to prevent this. The seer replied that there was: he had to go to a beggar and beg to him for food during the special hours of a certain day.

The king found this to be slightly odd. Here was a great king who had only given to others, never asked. And of all people he had to go to a beggar to ask. But he cared greatly about his people and so even if it meant losing a little dignity, he was ready to do it.

So the king set out on the specific day looking for a beggar. Because his kingdom was so prosperous and virtuous, there were very few beggars. However finally he spotted on and told his charioteer to rush towards him. The beggar saw that the king's chariot was approaching and got excited. He knew that if he begged in front of the king, he would get a reward so great that he would neve have to beg again.

When the king stopped his chariot next to the beggar, he got down, took off his crown and kneeled in front of the beggar and asked him for food. The beggar was shocked but at the same time he knew that he had to give something. So he reached into his bag of rice and grabbed a fistful of rice. Then he thought to himself that this was the king and surely he must have plenty. So he clenched his hand a little tighter and let some rice fall from his fist. Even this seemed like too much. He clenched his hand a little tighter until only a few grains of rice remained. He gave these to the king.

Happy that he had avoided a tragedy, the king got on his chariot without saying anything and sped away to avoid further embarassment. The beggar, confused and perplexed by the whole event, went home and gave the food he had gathered that day to his wife. When his wife took the rice out to cook dinner, she noticed a few shining grains. She grabbed one and looked at it more closely. It was a piece of gold!

She called her husband and asked him where he got these pieces of gold from. Confused, he stopped to think about his odd day. Suddenly it hit him; every grain of rice that he had given to the king had become a grain of gold! He told the story to his wife and he regretted having only given the king so little.

The questions is what will you give? We are all given the chance to give something to God? How much of your time, your effort, your efficiency, your resources will you give?

Here is an inspiring video clip I was sent that shows this spirit of effort and giving...

Why Should I read the Geeta?

An old Farmer lived on a farm in the mountains with his young grandson. Each morning Grandpa was up early sitting at the kitchen table reading his Bhagavad Geeta. His grandson
wanted to be just like him and tried to imitate him in every way he could.

One day the grandson asked, "Grandpa! I try to read the Bhagavad Geeta just like you but I don't understand it, and what I do understand I forget as soon as I close the book. What good does reading the Bhagavad Geeta do?"

The Grandfather quietly turned from putting coal in the stove and replied, "Take this coal basket down to the river and bring me back a basket of water."

The boy did as he was told, but all the water leaked out before he got back to the house. The grandfather laughed and said, "You'll have to move a little faster next time," and sent him back to the river with the basket to try again.

This time the boy ran faster, but again the basket was empty before he returned home. Out of breath, he told his grandfather that it was impossible to carry water in a basket, and he went to get a bucket instead. The old man said, "I don't want a bucket of water; I want a basket of water. You're just not trying hard enough," and he went out the door to watch the boy try
again.

At this point, the boy knew it was impossible, but he wanted to show his grandfather that even if he ran as fast as he could, the water would leak out before he got back to the house. The boy again dipped the basket into river and ran hard, but when he reached his grandfather the basket
was again empty.

Out of breath, he said, "See Grandpa, it's useless!"

"So you think it is useless?" The old man said, "Look at the basket."

The boy looked at the basket and for the first time realized that the basket was different. It had been transformed from a dirty old coal basket and was now clean, inside and out.

"Son, that's what happens when you read the Bhagavad Geeta. You might not understand or remember everything, but when you read it, you will be changed, inside and out. That is the work of Krishna in our lives."

Count Your Blessings!

WHAT HAPPENS IN HEAVEN

I dreamt that I went to Heaven and an angel was showing me around. We walked side-by-side inside a large workroom filled with angels. My angel guide stopped in front of the first section and said, "This is the Receiving Section. Here, all petitions to God said in prayer are received."

I looked around in this area, and it was terribly busy with so many angels sorting out petitions written on voluminous paper sheets and scraps from people all over the world.

Then we moved on down a long corridor until we reached the second section.

The angel then said to me, "This is the Packaging and Delivery Section. Here, the graces and blessings the people asked for are processed and delivered to the living persons who asked for them. "I noticed again how busy it was there. There were many angels working hard at that station, since so many blessings had been requested and were being packaged for delivery to Earth.

Finally at the farthest end of the long corridor we stopped at the door of a very small station. To my great surprise, only one angel was seated there, idly doing nothing. "This is the Acknowledgment Section," my angel friend quietly admitted to me. He seemed embarrassed "How is it that there is no work going on here?" I asked. "So sad," the angel sighed. "After people receive the blessings that they asked for, very few send back acknowledgments ."

"How does one acknowledge God's blessings?" I asked.

"Simple," the angel answered. Just say, "Thank you, Lord."

"What blessings should they acknowledge?" I asked.

"If you have food in the refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof overhead and a place to sleep you are richer than 75% of this world. If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change in a dish, you are among the top 8% of the world's wealthy."

"And if you get this on your own computer, you are part of the 1% in the world who has that opportunity." "If you woke up this morning with more health than illness ... you are more blessed than the many who will not even survive this day ."

"If you have never experienced the fear in battle, the loneliness of imprisonment, the agony of torture, or the pangs of starvation ... you are ahead of 700 million people in the world."

"If you can attend a church without the fear of harassment, arrest, torture or death you are envied by, and more blessed than, three billion people in the world ."

"If your parents are still alive ...you are very rare."

"If you can hold your head up and smile, you are not the norm, you're unique to all those in doubt and despair."

Have a good day, count your blessings!!!

Cartoons to Make Us Think

Mr. Bush has erred once again...what an embarassment. Now the question is, does Iran even hav any WMD??? Or are we just trying to take over the world again?

Does it really matter who we elect? Will it all be the same anyways? By no means am I pushing for political apathy. I think everyone should and must participate in a democracy by voting but it is interesting to see if all of these individuals who claim to be so different are really all that different. Are we just choosing between the same thing served as different names?

A Florist's Mistake

On opening his new store, a man received a bouquet of flowers. He became dismayed on reading the enclosed card, that it expressed "Deepest Sympathy". While puzzling over the message, his telephone rang. It was the florist, apologizing for having sent the wrong card. "Oh, it's alright." said the storekeeper. "I'm a businessman and I understand how these things can happen." "But," added the florist, "I accidentally sent your card to a funeral party." "Well, what did it say?" ask the storekeeper. "'Congratulations on your new location'." was the reply.

Expanding Our Horizons...

This article is about a new form of graffiti that is being used thanks to modern technology...LASERS! Basically you use a laser beam to make an image on a building. Kinda cool idea: http://www.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,1693044,00.html

Also, an ebola breakout! For those who don't know, ebola is probably the most contagious disease ever and it is lethal. You read about in biology sometimes but you never think there could be an actual outbreak... http://www.newsweek.com/id/74101/page/2

And talk about needing to expand our horizons...the US continues to be stubborn about doing anything for our environment. This morning, Al Gore was on CNN and he was talking about how we really only have 5-6 years to make significant changes in the way we live if we want to save our environment the way it is. The US is the biggest polluter per person in the world and yet we aren't willing to follow any rules... http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/washington/AP-Bali-Climate-Conference.html

Brad Pitt: An Actor with More to Life...

I read this article and really enjoyed it! It was one of the few times I've seen an article really talking about the humanity of these actors. I must say I have new respect for the man and tip my hat off to him. I love how he says that he enjoys the fame because he can use it for something more in life. We should all strive to be great (whether it be fame, money, or power) but after we achieve greatness, use it for the right purpose....

Pitt: Acting becoming 'less a focus'

(CNN) -- Actor Brad Pitt plans to focus on rebuilding New Orleans and extending his family, he told CNN's Larry King -- but acting may not be in his long-term future.

"It's become less and less a focus as I get older," he said in the interview, scheduled to air Wednesday night on "Larry King Live." "I think it's really more of a younger man, younger woman's game."

He hasn't ruled it out completely -- "I'd like to drop in if I'm still invited every few years or so," he told King -- but he said he wants to pursue some other interests as well.

"At this point, I'd rather -- it takes so much time, [and] there's just other things I'd rather be doing," said Pitt, who soon turns 44, during the course of a freewheeling interview. VideoWatch Pitt speak lovingly of his children »

Right now, Pitt's primary goal is to help rebuild New Orleans. On Monday, the actor announced plans to build 150 eco-friendly homes in the Louisiana city's Lower 9th Ward, an area devastated by Hurricane Katrina. In the storm's aftermath, the community's housing stock was largely demolished, leaving many of its residents living in trailers. VideoWatch King tour the 9th Ward »

Pitt, who purchased a French Quarter mansion in New Orleans earlier this year with Angelina Jolie, said he's met 9th Ward residents who "did everything right" -- worked hard, bought homes, sent kids to college -- but now feel abandoned.

"It wasn't just -- you can't call this an act of God," he said of Katrina. "This was a man-made failure. This should not have happened.

"These were levee failures ... mistakes with destroying the barriers that once protected this city. ... Now I don't [think] it was a dastardly evil move on someone's part. It was a chain of events that culminated into this horrific event.

"But it can be fixed," he said. PhotoGallery: Behind the scenes at the New Orleans project »

Pitt said his Make It Right project won't stop with rebuilding the Lower 9th Ward. The ultimate goal is to build eco-friendly homes throughout New Orleans and the Gulf Coast.

He said his interest in the environment has changed the way he and Jolie live. They have installed a water capture system and solar power in their California home. There's no "concept of waste" in nature, he said.

"Anything that's discarded becomes fuel or becomes food for something else," he said. "We can be living the same way."

He urged people to go to his project's Web site -- www.makeitrightnola.org -- to learn how they could contribute. He also called on foundations, corporations and wealthy individuals to contribute.

Pitt gave $5 million to Make It Right.

He also acknowledged that he's uncomfortable being a celebrity. VideoWatch Pitt on the fulfillment of parenthood »

"Well, I duck and jive," he said about being in the spotlight. "Keep my head down."

Celebrity, though, is useful when he can leverage it for a good cause, he added.

"The press uses me," he said. "I use it."

He doesn't like, however, how the paparazzi use his four children.

"They call out my kids by name, shove cameras in their faces," Pitt said. "... My kids believe that any time you go outside the house, it's just a wall of photographers, people that take your picture. That is their view of the world. I worry about the effect it will have on them."

Despite the unwelcome attention, Pitt told King that he wants more children with Jolie. "We're just getting started," he said.

He called Jolie a "fantastic" mother.

"Dedicated, kids first," he said. "[She's] really inventive and great fun to them and very, very protective."

He and Jolie rarely argue, he said.

"No, not really," he said. "[We] challenge each other a lot. Have good fun with that."

Joke of the Day

A little entertainment to lighten your day...

A rabbi, a priest and a pastor were all in a boat together fishing. The pastor said to the others, "I think I am going to go over to that shore and sit down." So, he gets out of the boat, walks across the water and sits down on the shore. Then, the priest says to the rabbi, "I think I going to go over there to join him." So, he does the same as the pastor and sits next to him on the shore. The rabbi thinks to himself, "Well, if they can do it, so can I!" So, he climbs out of the boat, but he falls in the water. The pastor says to the priest, "Do you think we should of told him where the rocks were?"

The Words of Jesus...

Here is a passage I found very powerful from what is considered the "Sermon on the Mount." This particular part is from Book of Matthew 5:38-42...

You have heard that it was said, "An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth." But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also. If anyone wants to sue you and take away your tunic, let him have your cloak also. And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two. Give to him who asks you, and from him who wants to borrow from you do not turn away.

A prisoner in jail receives a letter from his wife: "Dear Husband, I have decided to plant some lettuce in the back garden. When is the best time to plant them?" The prisoner, knowing that the prison guards read all mail, replied in a letter: "Dear Wife, whatever you do, do not touch the back garden. That is where I hid all the money." A week or so later, he received another letter from his wife: "Dear Husband, You wouldn't believe what happened, some men came with shovels to the house, and dug up all the back garden." The prisoner wrote another letter back: "Dear wife, now is the best time to plant the lettuce."
